Setup — 3 steps
01
Add the Blender connector in Claude Desktop
▼
Open Claude Desktop and navigate to:
- Click Customize in the sidebar or settings
- Select Connectors
- Search for Blender
- Click Add
The Blender tools will now appear as available connectors in your Claude Desktop chat input once the add-on is installed and connected.
Claude Desktop is required — this connector does not work on claude.ai in the browser. Claude needs Blender running on the same machine.
02
Install the add-on in Blender
▼
Open the Blender MCP Server page in a browser alongside Blender, then:
- Drag the install link from the page into the Blender window
- Blender will prompt you to add the lab extension repository — allow it
- Drag the same link into Blender a second time to install the add-on
- Blender will notify you in the status bar when updates are available
The drag-and-drop install is intentional — you don't need to manually download a file or use Blender's Preferences menu.
03
Start the connection
▼
With your Blender project open:
- In the 3D Viewport, press N to open the sidebar
- Find and open the BlenderMCP tab
- Click Connect to Claude
Back in Claude Desktop, the Blender tools will now appear under the connector icon in the chat input. You're live — describe what you want Claude to do in your scene.
Changes apply to your open session. They're written to disk when you save in Blender — Claude does not edit your .blend file directly.
What you can do with it
Read scene setups
Explain complex node or modifier setups in plain language
Batch changes
Apply changes across multiple objects at once
Materials and lighting

Custom tools
Write Python that adds new tools and panels to Blender's interface
Clean up files
Remove unused data blocks and orphaned assets
Understand .blend files
Make sense of files you didn't build yourself
Good to know
01
Works on Claude Desktop only — not claude.ai in the browser. Claude needs Blender running on the same machine to access the live session.
02
No Python knowledge required. You can ask Claude to show you the code before it runs if you want to review or learn from it.
03
Changes apply to your open session and are written to disk when you save in Blender. Claude does not edit your .blend file directly.
04
Built on the open MCP standard — also works with Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, and Windsurf if you prefer a code editor workflow.
05
The connector was built by the Blender developers and released as part of Anthropic's Claude for Creative Work announcement in April 2026.
