01
Set up your brand system

The first time you use Claude Design, go through the onboarding. Claude reads your codebase or design files and builds a design system from your colours, typography, and components.

Every project after that is automatically on-brand — Claude doesn't need to be told what your brand looks like each time. Teams can maintain more than one design system and refine them over time.

No codebase? Start from a text description of your brand or upload existing design files. Claude will work with what you give it.
02
Start a project

You can start from any of these inputs:

  • Text prompt — describe what you want to build
  • Uploaded files — images, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX
  • Codebase — point Claude at your repo
  • Web capture tool — grab elements directly from your live website so prototypes look like the real product

The web capture tool is particularly useful — it means your prototype will look like your actual product rather than a generic mockup.

03
Refine the output

Once Claude produces the initial design, you have several ways to iterate:

  • Inline comments on specific elements — click and tell Claude what to change
  • Direct text edits on any element
  • Custom sliders Claude builds for you — tweak spacing, colour, and layout live
  • Conversational refinement — just describe the change and Claude applies it across the full design
Beta users report complex pages taking 2 prompts where other tools needed 20+. Start broad, then refine.
04
Collaborate with your team

Share your design in three ways:

  • Keep private — only you can see it
  • Share view-only — anyone in your org can see but not edit
  • Grant edit access — colleagues can modify the design and chat with Claude together in a group conversation

The group conversation feature means your team can iterate on a design together with Claude in real time — no back and forth over Slack describing what to change.

05
Export and ship

When you're ready, export in whatever format you need. The Claude Code handoff is particularly powerful — one instruction packages a full handoff bundle so the design can be shipped directly.
